What is a ghost? This is the question that Edith Wharton asks in her latest collection of short stories, entitled Ghosts. The ghost is a shadow, an essence, a foreign figure that inspires fear because it comes from an unknown world or a distant time. The ghost connects us with the threshold, with death, but also with the deepest part of ourselves. Starting from a sound score that plunges us into an elsewhere and from a work on evanescent images in which the characters of five stories are gradually embodied, Fanny & Alexander crosses the dark area where reality and mystery meet. Between explosive apparitions, twists and subtle anxieties, the universe of Wharton’s stories, from which the show takes its cue, questions us about the sense of ending, about nostalgia, regret, remorse, fear and love for the invisible.
