On the centenary of “Battleship Potemkin,” New Consonance pays tribute to one of the greatest directors of all time. According to Kleiman, this extraordinary film represents the pinnacle of twentieth-century avant-garde art, as Eisenstein brings together the discoveries of new artistic movements and the classical tradition.
The new soundtrack, created by the Edison Studio composers’ collective, offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the film through a fusion of music, Russian-language voices, electroacoustic and ambient sounds that reveal new atmospheres, symbols, and senses to the viewer’s perception.
The sound and music, in their strong relationship with the image, aim to convey the power of faces, gestures, suspensions, and the accelerations of internal and external rhythms, as well as the profoundly human dimension in which the action of crowds and individuals unfolds.
The music and sound intertwine and counterpoint the visual montage, reinventing the audiovisual form in a contemporary sense.
