Music, Space, Time
Meeting with Luigi Ceccarelli
Participants: Luigi Ceccarelli, Fabrizio Nastari, and Gianni Trovalusci
Making music today means dealing with a great complexity of elements, not just musical ones. New technologies and scientific discoveries present us with a broader knowledge in which all cultures and languages, past and present, coexist in the present moment. Traditional artistic languages have thus been replaced by complex ones, based on the globality of perception and diverse cultures. Today, the rules of composition, on which school had based its authority, have thus become only a part of knowledge.
Starting from these considerations, we will discuss, with Luigi Ceccarelli and Gianni Trovalusci, how sound, image, space, and word are today an integral part of new artistic languages. In such a complex reality, the concepts of music, composition, and performance must be completely reconsidered.
The fact remains that music is the only art that unfolds solely in the domain of time, and whatever its future, it will be indispensable.
