The sound material used in this piece originates from the virtuoso playing of the violinist Diego Conti, recorded during various performances realized together with the dancer Francesco Scavetta.
“Cadenza” is a re-elaboration of various episodes of these performances, and when placed together they form a dense polyphonic and polyrhythmic structure. The sounds have been transformed into abstract entities that can almost never be recognized as the original instrumental sounds, although we always tried to maintain the energy of the virtuoso gesture. The final result was then redistributed in space, by means of 5 separate speakers. The aim of the work was to create the impression of a complex hybrid man-machine that would enhance the virtuosic performance beyond merely human capacities by means of an extreme emphasis on gestures, amplified by a mechanical/digital machine and expanded into space in all of its teeming details. “Cadence” was realized at Edison Studio in 2010 on the occasion of the birthday of the Belgian composer Annette Van De Gorne and it is dedicated to her.
Le matériel sonore utilisé dans cette oeuvre trouve ses origines dans la virtuosité du violoniste Diego Conti, à l’occasion d’une performances que j’ai réalisé avec le danseur Francesco Scavetta.
La réalisation de Cadenza est une ré-élaboration de diverses versions de cette performance qui forment un ensemble polyphonique et polyrythmique . Les sons ont été élaborés en cherchant de ne pas supprimer l’empreinte du geste virtuose des musiciens et le résultat final a été reproduit dans l’espace.
L’intention qui a guidé ce travail était de créer un complexe hybride homme-machine qui amène l’exécution virtuose à la gestuelle extrême, amplifiée par une machine mécanico-digitale et explose dans l’espace dans toutes ses particularités frémissantes.
Cadenza a été réalisée dans le studio Edison en 2010 à l’occasion de l’anniversaire de Annette Van De Gorne et lui est dédicacé.
